On November 2014, Netflix announced that they will be taking on Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events as a Netflix Original Series. The adaptation came with cautious optimism, as some folks were not so enthused with the previously adapted feature film for it, which starred Jim Carey as Count Olaf.

As production began in March of this year, we gained reports of the multitalented Neil Patrick Harris taking on the role of the devious Count Olaf, Patrick Warburton as our dark author Lemony Snicket and Aasif Mandvi as Uncle Monty. Newcomers Louis Hynes and Malina Weissman will play Klaus and Violent Baudelaire respectively. As a fan of the novel and not a fan of the film, I myself began to be very excited for this Netflix series as it slowly came to life.

Today, we have been graced with an amazing trailer, which reveals more star-studded actors to take on the role. The trailer shows Joan Cusack as Justice Strauss, Catherine O’ Hara as Dr. Georgina Orwell and Alfre Woodard (fresh from the success of Marvel’s Luke Cage) as Aunt Josephine.

A Series of Unfortuanate Events will be released to worldwide Netflix users on January 13, 2017.
